Essence of Light Photography

Jed Wee MA ARPS

I was born in Singapore and took up photography in 1997. Since then my interest in photography has grown year on year, and I continue to be excited and challenged daily by the process of being able to create images that embody my personal vision. Photography is first and foremost my hobby, which means I approach it as a passion as well as a job. I have a range of photographic experience as a result, from weddings and concerts through to wildlife and portraits.

Since 1998 I have had a strong presence in online photographic communities, having written and moderated for AsiaPhoto.com (now defunct) and Clubsnap.org. I also conduct workshops and hold presentations for local societies, including as a guest of Nikon Singapore in 2004.

In 1999 I moved to the UK to read law at the University of Durham, graduating in 2002, but I decided to pursue my love of photography as a career. I joined Sportsbeat Images as a full time photographer for five years, covering major national and international sporting events and getting published in a wide range of media.

I became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society in 2004, following my submission of a portfolio in visual journalism compiled from my work as a sports photographer.

Because of my enthusiasm for photography, I went back to university at Durham to study for a Masters in the Photographic Image, and I graduated at the end of a two-year part time course in 2006.

As the new year began in 2008 I set out on my own to allow me full creative expression with my photography. I have settled in the North East and have made Durham my base, from where I now ply my trade.

I am available to undertake commissions for a wide range of photographic requirements, where my background in photography makes me ideally suited to event and PR coverage, sports work, as well as my own contemporary, journalistic style of wedding photography.
